The Story of Back Cove

Portland, Maine is a small city in New England, at the top right corner of USA. Now famous for its ocean views and 5 star restaurants, that was not always the case. Even in the 1980s Portland Maine was where sailors went to get tattoos. Before that, In the 1800, Portland's Back Cove (featured in photo) was not much more then a sewer filled with chemicals from the tanneries that were all around it. However, durning the 2000s, Portland Maine completely changed, the waters have been cleaned and it is now the city's prime real estate. There is still a factories and commerce  in the Back Cover, an ionic bean factory, even a sewer treatment plant, but they clean their discharge. Therefore the Back Cove is a beautiful place for people to bike, run, and walk around. This simple solution, to clean factory discharge, will change the whole world, the same way it changed the Back Cove and bringing opportunities that previously wouldn't have been considered possible, expanding value for years to come.

Straws did it

Straws have gained international attention as a needless waste product.  People saw that their waste could have devastating  impacts and decided to stop making that waste. The demand for better products will create the supply of better products. We are taking steps to make and spread Ocean Compostable Fish Friendly (OCFF) products . We are thrilled to be in the lab and in the mills making OCFF lids for you to enjoy.

The Penobscot tribal people believe all land is sacred. Though some land we utilize in different ways, we can still respect and responsibly utilize all land. Allowing it to hold the same value for future generations

Mill and City Resiliency design

New Mills. New Cities. New Times

The mill of old is dead and unwelcoming. The city of now is paved and suffocating. Single streams of cellulose product that stays strictly within a narrow range of its own type of paper in not a resilient model. Why  put all your eggs are in one basket?  Nature never has a forest of only one tree.

Plant the Plant

Mills will be transformed using new techniques such as biodynamic water flows, permaculture design, regenerative practices. Science and energy come together and are analyzed for effectiveness. Whole space system design

What is the material you are developing?

Using traditional and innovative cellulose material we aim  to create sustainably made and environmentally safe consumer packaging goods. From to-go coffee lids to water bottles, we are driven to reimagining the term "daily good".

What is OCFF?

OCFF is our international standard of Ocean Compostable Fish Friendly. 100% of all  P3RD's  profits are committed to transforming consumer goods into OCFF -ocean compostable and fish friendly!

"Where have you been?"

We get asked a lot, "Why isn't this already being done? Why are products not already made out of environmentally safe material ?" The short answer is - we are not sure, but we are doing it now. The long answer is decades of the paper industry in America being stymied from lack of innovation and public share holder profits taking priorities over long term success which requires innovation. There also is an old belief that no one cares about using earth friendly materials. Well a growing to-go ware market as well as growing awareness of individual impact has changed that belief- for the better! Better for You. Your Family, and the World.

What is your event "Put A Lid On Plastic" about?

Put a lid on plastic is our call to action. We are developing this as a method to help hot beverage providers decrease their plastic foot print thorough replacing their plastic To-Go hot beverage lids with cellulose based lids. Available now!

Why Industry Resiliency Design and Ocean Education?

P3RD company values reflect true transparency, in that if we only replace the product yet utilize the same outdated and ugly industrial polluting system to create it, then we know we have not pushed the needle on planet repair. Likewise, if we do not monitor our ocean we will not know how much repair we have accomplished, or what is left to do. Therefor we take a deeper look, past the material we use to create new products for you to enjoy, into the very nature of the system that creates these products; the mills and the cities they live in. Additionally we connect schools and communities to our ocean through citizen science initiatives. Helping us all feel connect to each other and the ocean, no matter where we are in the world. At P3RD we are designing products to be 100% ocean compostable,  monitoring 0 emission mills, using  sustainably harvested materials. Our moto; "Choose Better. For You, Your Family, and the World " is supported by our company values of Integrity, Transparency, Kindness & Beauty.
